Are t shirt unisex? No, but there's no harm in trying... istockphoto © alija

Well my wife thinks so anyway, judging by the way my own collection of retro t shirts spends as much time in the hairdressers and nail parlour as on the golf course.

I must admit that many women look really cool for very casual occasions in a men’s t shirt, especially if it’s a size XL and doesn’t fit too closely. But what many people don’t realise is that men’s t shirts are actually a different cut from women’s. It’s obvious when you think about it since women are after all a different shape from us guys :)

The cut of the chest, the arms and even the neck are totally different, and if you tried on a woman’s t shirt (not that you would of course!) you’d find it fitted so badly, whatever the size, that you’d not be able to wear it.

And the only way my wife can get away with wearing my retro t shirts is because they’re so loose on her they don’t actually fit anywhere. I’ve tried explaining this to her in the hope of keeping my antique Zep t shirt collection to myself, but I might as well talk to the dog. At least he does what he’s told sometimes, and never ever tries to wear my “unisex” t shirts.
