Slippers are what you expect to see on birthday cards to your granddad. Looking cosy and plaid, they go with the pipe and armchair in most people’s minds.

There’s a whole lot more to slippers than that, though, as you’ll find if you look around – and most collections do seem to come out at this time of year as they’re generally seen as Christmas gift ideas rather than something a guy would buy for himself.

Moccasins in sheepskin are very acceptable these days and can be relied on to keep your guy’s feet warm as he’s pottering about with the car in the garage or mending your central heating. My Dan wouldn’t be without his.

Mules are also a favourite, with some classic leather designs which are sure to be well received as a Christmas gift from Santa.
So if you’re struggling with Christmas gift ideas for your guy, don’t rule slippers out without having a good look around at the many styles and designs available.

Do avoid sandals though, as guys in sandals always look like the worst kind of hippy. And guys with socks on wearing sandals look even worse than that.
