With the party season fast approaching – though for me it’s always party season - I thought I’d better give you the best bit of men’s fashion advice you’ll get all winter. Don’t wear a clip on bow tie with your tux at your Christmas do.

And the second best bit of advice is don’t wear a bow tie on a piece of elastic either. It’s just an awful, cheap, unnecessary thing to do.

The bow tie is the real men’s tie, and their bow ties sort out the real men from the boys. Imagine Daniel Craig after clearing out the casino, gazing at his latest supermodel spy, undoing his bow tie and watching the limp bit of polyester dangle sadly down his designer shirt on its piece of elastic. Enough said?

Go shopping for a good quality real silk tie. And absolutely only in black or white silk. Avoid red, green, paisley or anything else that your gran thinks looks cool. It doesn’t. Real men wear black or white bow ties.
