The Financial Times and Quintessentially launches a luxury online charity auction to help raise money for Room to Read, which is an innovative non-profit leader dedicated to promoting and enabling global education. Founded in 2000, the organisation is based on the belief that education is crucial to breaking the cycle of poverty in the developing world. Since then, the organisation has supported over three million children by providing increased access to higher-quality educational opportunities. Room to Read has established more than 700 schools and over 7,000 bilingual libraries with five million books, and continues to support the education of nearly 7,000 girls.
Room to Read, launched in Nepal in 2000, works with local communities throughout the developing world to provide quality educational opportunities by constructing schools, establishing libraries, creating children’s literature in local languages and providing education with a particular focus on girls. The organisation estimates that more than 300m children around the world do not have access to education.
The FT supports Room to Read through its 2009-2010 seasonal appeal to readers, and Quintessentially supports the charity through Quintessentially Foundation, a charitable organisation which helps improve the health, education and welfare of disadvantaged communities worldwide.
