The best cotton shirts that I’ve ever seen were a few seasons ago from Hugo Boss. A fitted, white cotton tailored shirt with darting to make sure it fitted completely and accentuated the wearer’s waist and shoulders. I still believe that no man could look bad in it – and believe me I sold them to a few dodgy fellas.

It was the perfect base for any man’s wardrobe, and one of the most versatile piece of clothing I’ve ever know. I advised all my clients to get hold of a couple, and sold hundreds in just one season.

Why am I telling you this? Well it’s not often that such a perfect piece comes along, and there are rumours that they’re recreating it for the new season. Keep a look out, and make sure you get a few cotton shirts this season. Even if you don’t go for Hugo Boss, well-cut 100% cotton shirts are the basis for a versatile wardrobe…and there’s nothing better for us girls than putting on our bloke’s shirt after a shower when we’re lounging about at home.

There’s nothing worse than a bad tie. That sounds like a big statement, but for such a small piece of fabric it can make or break an outfit.

I’ve seen plenty of men buy a handmade, tailored suit and then pull out a creased tie that looks like something a teacher from the 1970s would wear. Far from being an unimportant addition, designer ties can be the cherry on top of a beautiful suit, and can take the attention away from a less expensive cut. On the other hand, a bad tie can make a guy look like a teenager on his first day at work, or even look the accused standing in the dock.

So what labels do I recommend to my customers for a good tie? Well it depends on the occasion, but why not try something stylish from Hugo Boss, the quirky energy of Ted Baker or the timeless elegance of Gucci. Designer ties are as individual and expressive as you, but whatever you say with designer ties, make sure you say something.
