Skinny seems to be the in-word just now, and it started I suppose with skinny ties. Then somebody had the bright idea to bring out skinny jackets and skinny trousers – which together make up the skinny suit. But I’m not sure things haven’t gone a bit too far.
Skinny ties I like, as you know from my fashion blogs. But there’s something about skinny jackets and trousers that jars with my fashion sense. No guy can look elegant and stylish if his jacket looks as though it’s throttling him and his trousers show just how thin his legs really are.
The thing is, skinny suits come in all types of cloth, even quality pure wool, but whatever the suit is made of, the guy still looks as though he should have bought a couple of sizes bigger.
As a personal shopper, I make a point of checking what’s cool and what’s not, and the skinny suit isn’t quite there, I’m pleased to say. I’ve yet to see any celebrity worthy of the name wearing a skinny suit, and not many guys on their way to the office either.
The fashion trend in men’s clothing is a moving target, like all fashion trends, but for me this is one trend too many.

Sarah, nice posting. I think that the skinny suits look great depending on the person wearing it. As an example, the model in your photo looks great. However, I think that the oversize suits (common with most men) is not the way to go. A good suit has to be perfectly fitted by a master taylor. For example, in the latest Bond movie, the suits that Bond’s wear are amazing. His suits looks like a mix of a skinny suit and normal suit.
Finally, I think the skinny suits looks more modern. We haven’t seen many changes in a men’s suit in decades.
